By Plane

New York City Area Airports (JFK, LaGuardia, and Newark) are 50 miles to the west. 

We recommend the shuttles (SuperShuttle, Wilson Shuttle and Express Shuttle) to get from and to the airports http://www.ny.com/transportation/airports/JFK.html .  The prices are different from company to company, but they are around ~$70 one way. For instance, http://www.winstontrans.com quotes $73 JFK->Stony Brook and $67 Stony Brook->JFK.

If one prefers traveling by train: 

- from JFK, one can take the AirTrain to Jamaica station ($5 one way) and then the Long Island Rail Road to Stony Brook (for schedules and fees, please see the train notes and link below)

From Jamaica To Stony Brook one way:

- from Newark airport, one can take the Amtrak to Penn station and then the Long Island Rail Road to Stony Brook. 

- from LaGuardia, one can take bus Q70 to Woodside station and then the Long Island Rail Road to Stony Brook.

Long Island's Islip-MacArthur Airport is 16 miles from the campus and is serviced by direct flights by major airlines and commuter lines. 

By Train

Stony Brook Station is located along the Long Island Rail Road, Port Jefferson line. From Penn Station in Manhattan, travel time is approximately one and a half hours. A free shuttle service is available at Stony Brook Station to the Student Activity Center (otherwise, it is a 15 minutes walk through the campus). The New Computer Science building is next to the North of the Student Activity Center. For schedules and fees, please check here: http://lirr42.mta.info/  The Stony Brook train station is situated on the north side of the campus (10 minutes walk from the Hilton hotel and the New Computer Science building).

By Car

From Manhattan: take the Long Island Expressway (Route 495) to Exit 62. Follow Nicolls Road (Route 97) north for 9 miles. To find the campus via GPS, enter the address "100 Nicolls Road, Stony Brook, NY 11790." 

From JFK: take the Van Wyck Expy from the airport to Long Island Expressway 495, then follow the directions above. To find the campus via GPS, enter the address "100 Nicolls Road, Stony Brook, NY 11790." 


Visitor Parking Lots:

Meters: A metered parking is situated between the New Computer Science building and the Student Activity Center: 
$1.50/hour

Parking is free all day Saturday and Sunday.
Meters are enforced 7 AM to 7 PM, Monday through Friday.

A Large Visitor Parking Garage is situated next to the Administration building and the Main Campus Entrance (5 minutes walk from the New Computer Science building). Follow the traffic signs from all campus entrances to get to the Visitor Parking garage.
$2.00 per hour / $10 Up to and over 5 Hours
Located at next to the Stony Brook Administration Building
Parking is free all day Saturday and Sunday.

By Ferry
